As a young child I was raised by the sea with white sand beaches, and spent many happy hours collecting, shells, driftwood, and watching small sand crabs scurrying away when we children approached. Water was very much a part of our lives and family picnics, were also spent in and around some of New Zealand's beautiful pristine rivers. Rivers that wound their way, through the most amazing green countryside like great arteries carrying "the lifes blood" of the land. They flowed down from the Mountains and across pebbles, which had been rounded and smoothed by the action of the water over long periods of time. We children delighted in spying through these crystal clear waters the many different coloured stones, some glinting as the water and sunlight caught the facets of quartz hidden within. Many of these "treasures" were added to our, shell and driftwood collections. The city and surrounds of my young years, was one that catered to nature. I was surrounded by parks, trees, gardens, rivers, and rolling green hills, and had the sea lapping at my back door ... My love for Gaia our beautiful Mother Earth, was nurtured from a young age, and long before, "environmentalists, Green Peace and recycle" became fashionable. This deep and abiding love for Gaia and ALL that live within her gentle embrace, has strengthened with time and appreciation for all that she gives to us.
